THE IDEA FOR POÉMIA CAME ABOUT IN THE MOST ROMANTIC WAY POSSIBLE, IT CAME TO ONE OF OUR FOUNDERS IN A DREAM.
The dream and all its strange, fascinating details was quickly forgotten as most all dreams are, but the idea of a wedding dress inspired by great romance, wildflowers, nostalgia, myths and great stories, that would be worn over and over again, remained.
This wedding dress that accompanied the woman on one of her happiest days, hugging her, dancing with her, and celebrating her, would go on to live beyond just that day, and have the memories assigned to its existence compound and become even more meaningful with each new occasion.
Our hope is that we can do our small part for one of the most special days of your life, so that the dress you wear on your big day will have been made thoughtfully, responsibly, and ethically by using fibers that have been specially selected based on their social and environmental impact and supporting women and families across our global supply chain by ensuring safe working conditions with a living wage.

We know that no amount of recycling will replace consuming less, which is why Poémia is committed to creating designs that can be worn again and again with a quick and easy conversion of the dress. For a dress that looks and feels so good, and means so much to you, we think it should be worn long after just the big day!

Poémia strives to be a brand that honors the creative process, showcasing the rich history of artisanal craftsmanship and techniques. We take the time and care to create beautiful designs so that you feel your absolute best on your special day. Each garment is fit carefully and painstakingly, and is intentionally designed from the ground up to be versatile and flattering on all body types and sizes. We want each Poémia piece to hold the traditions of the past while creating its own story of the future.
Poémia is inspired by the women that are changing the world in everyday ways. The women who are working hard to protect the planet, running businesses, creating new ideas and making new discoveries in science and technology. The women who are staying up all night with their sick baby (or fur baby), selflessly caring for their loved ones and spending nights grading papers. These women are writing the poems that give our emotions words, and are the musicians that light them on fire. We hope to give these incredible women a new way to be even more authentically themselves on a day in which they promise to share their life with someone else forever.
A wedding is a time for celebration and creativity. Our hope is to build a community of women that can share in a holistic approach of how to not only celebrate, but also live thoughtful, inspired and compassionate lives.

No amount of recycling will replace consuming less, which is why Poémia is committed to creating designs that can be worn again with quick and easy alterations of the garment.
For fiber selection, Poémia is committed to selecting organic whenever possible to avoid the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, or fabrics that are made from renewable fibers. It's not a perfect solution, but we make every effort to make the best choice for the planet and our community.
Garment worker safety and life sustainability is a core reason why we started Poémia in the first place. We partner alongside suppliers that work hard to pay a living wage to their team members and provide safe working conditions. Our partner in India is a proud member of the Nest Artisan Guild, a global community of artisan businesses practicing diverse craftsmanship across more than 50 nations. In partnership with Nest, non-profit they are working towards a more inclusive global economy that brings increased opportunity to craftspeople, their families, and our communities. Our partner in NYC is an AAPI woman-owned workshop with a team of 10 sewers and pattern-maker in Long Island City.
We prioritize recycled and organic materials, down to the hangtags, labels, and shipping boxes that finish our products. Our two core fabrics are organic cotton and cupro. Organic cotton is cotton grown from non-genetically modified plants, without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals, like fertilizers or pesticides. Cupro is a silk like material that is made from cotton linter which is a waste product of cotton. The trims we have sourced are made from recycled materials such as FSC recycled paper hangtags to recycled polyester woven labels.
